Course Description

The subject matter in this course is "directly and primarily related to" the NBCC Content Area, Counselor Professional Identity and Practice Issues, which has been specified by the NBCC Continuing Education Provider Policy as acceptable content to qualify for NBCC continuing education credit.  This course is approved for ACEP home study and offers 21 CE Hours.


This Batterer's Intervention Facilitator Training is designed for professionals seeking to satisfy the Florida Administrative Code, Batterer Intervention Certification Minimum Standards for completion of 21 hours of facilitator training on the power and control model of intervention.

Learning Objectives
  • To learn Florida's statutory requirements for batterer's intervention programs (BIP).

  • To understand the origin of BIPs and the different theories behind the causes of domestic violence.

  • To learn the definition of domestic violence according to Florida law.

  • To understand the Power & Control Model and how perpetrators use tactics of power and control to abuse their victims.

  • To learn characteristics of egalitarian relationships which serve as the basis of the 8-themed structure of the Deluth Model of BIP.

  • To become aware of the magnitude of the problem domestic violence poses in our society by reviewing state and national statistics of the impact of domestic violence.

  • To learn the 8-themed structure of the Deluth Model of BIP, and how to teach perpetrators how to end tactics of abuse by learning how to foster characteristics of egalitarian relationships.  

  • To learn how to teach specific cognitive-behavioral skills to perpetrators to help them foster characteristics of egalitarian relationships.  

  • To learn about the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence.

  • To learn about the effects domestic violence has on children.

  • To learn how societal perception of gender roles influences domestic violence.

  • To learn how special populations are impacted by domestic violence.

  • To help perpetrators explore ways to improve their support systems.

  • To introduce the various laws related to domestic violence.
