This course is written for professional counselors. It provides a review of the difference between values, morals and ethics and discusses the basic moral principles which are the foundation of counseling ethics codes. It includes a discussion about the purpose of professional ethics codes and reviews some of the most common codes for counselors. This course addresses how counselors should use ethical decision-making models to help guide them when confronted with ethical dilemmas, and it reviews some of the most common ethical decision-making models. This course will also highlight some of the most common ethical violations that counselors make, resulting disciplinary actions, and steps counselors can take to avoid making such mistakes.
