Review the continuing education requirements for each profession by state and credentialing authority.

STATES

Florida

Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling

The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling licenses the following professions:

  • Certified Master Social Worker

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker

  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor  

 

Initial Licensure Course Requirements:

Florida licenses must be renewed every two years.  

Licenses renewals are due by March 31 of odd years.  

​​

Licensure Renewal Requirements:​​​​​​

  • 30 hours of continuing education (CE) for all of the above professions, every two years. 

  •  Continuing education credit must meet the following requirements: 

    • Two hours of continuing education on the prevention of MEDICAL ERRORS, every two years. 

    • Three hours of continuing education related to professional ETHICS AND BOUNDARIES, every two years. 

    • Three hours of continuing education related to LAWS AND RULES, every six years.

    • Two hours of continuing education related to DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, every six years.  Initial licenses must complete this continuing education within six months of initial licensure.  

  • Qualified Supervisors

    • Four hours of continuing education (CE) of an approved supervisory training shall be completed every six years

Florida Certification Board

The Florida Certification Board certifies the following professions:

Addiction

  • Certified Addiction Professionals (CAP): 20 hours of continuing education units.

  • Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS): 10 continuing education units.

  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAP):  20 hours of continuing education units.

  • Certified E-Therapist (CET): 5 hours continuing education units.

  • Certified Gambling Addiction Counselor (CGAC): 10 hours continuing education units.

  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS): 10 hours of continuing education units.

Child Welfare

  • Certified Child Welfare Case Manager (CWCM-I), Certified Child Welfare Protective Investigator (CWPI), Certified Child Welfare Case Manager (CWCM), and Certified Child Welfare Licensing Counselor (CWLC) 

 

Certified professionals must complete a specified number of CEUs as follows:

  • First renewal period: The first time the CWPI, CWCM or CWLC credential is renewed; the certified professional must complete a total of 40 hours of continuing education units (CEUs) that are dated between the credential issue date and the credential expiration date.

​​

  • On-going renewal periods: Each additional time a CWPI, CWCM or CWLC credential is renewed, the certified professional must complete a total of 20 CEUs dated during the first 12-month period and an additional 20 CEUs dated during the second 12-month period.

Criminal Justice

  • Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional (CCJAP)

  • Certified Criminal Justice Specialist (CCJAS): 10 hours of continuing education units

  • Certified Criminal Justice Counselor (CCJAC): 20 hours of continuing education units

  • Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJAP): 20 hours of continuing education units

Health

  • Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW)

  • Child Protection Team Medical Provider (CPTMP)

 

Mental Health

  • Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) 10 hours of continuing education units (CEUs)

  • Certified Mental Health Professional (CMHP): 20 continuing education units (CEUs)

  • Certified Recovery Peer Specialist: Adult, Family or Veteran (CRPS-A, CRPS-F, CRPS-V) CRPS: 10 hours of continuing education units
