Course Description

This course requires the Participant to read and understand the attached article pertaining to Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).  LBD is brain disorder that affects more than 1 million Americans. LBD is associated with abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain.  These deposits, called Lewy bodies, can lead to problems with thinking, movement, behavior and mood. 

 

In Lewy Body Dementia: Information for Patients, Families, and Professionals, Participants will learn about the basics of LBD.  Next, Participants will explore the two types of LBD. Additionally, Participants will consider current information known about the causes and risk factors of LBD.  Also, Participants will identify common LBD symptoms.  Next, Participants will consider basic information concerning the diagnosis of dementia.  Additionally, Participants will explore LBD care teams and palliative care.  Next, Participants will learn about the various medications used to treat LBD symptoms.  Additionally, Participants will explore resources for getting help; safety issues; planning for the future; and finding enjoyment in daily life with LBD.  Also, Participants will consider how LBD caregivers can educate others, prepare for emergencies, adjust expectations, care for themselves and address family concerns.  Next, Participants will identify ways to help children and teens cope with LBD.  Finally, Participants will explore the various avenues of LBD research and the current need for volunteers with and without LBD for clinical studies.

 

This course is intended to familiarize mental health professionals, social workers, substance abuse professionals, child welfare workers, healthcare professionals, psychologists, or certified addiction specialists, with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

Requirements

You will be expected to review all materials provided and pass the poset-test with a minimum of 70%, in order to receive your certificate of completion.  You will also be required to complete a course evaluation.  Once you have satisfactorily completed the post-test and submitted your evaluation, your certificate will be emailed to you.
