Course Description
This course meets the mandatory 2-hour continuing education requirement for “Prevention of Medical Errors” for mental health professionals governed under Florida Chapter 491. Participants will learn about medical errors and root cause analysis. Participant’s will be introduced to a framework for answering the analysis questions and aid organizing the steps in a root cause analysis In addition Participant’s will learn about Florida law as it relates to mandatory reporting, confidentiality, client records, and adverse incidents.

Learning Objectives

Identify major causes of medical errors conducted by health professionals.

Learn about “Root Cause Analysis” and how to develop and Action Plan Framework

Identify approaches to prevent and correct errors: including but not limited to misdiagnosis of psychological disorders and suicide

Learn about the State of Florida’s Required Reporting

Describe methods to keep both clients and providers safe.

Learn about Florida Law and Mandatory Reporting as it is related to: Adverse Incidents, Child Abuse/Neglect/Abandonment, Vulnerable Adult Abuse/Neglect/ Exploitation
Requirements
You will be expected to review all materials provided and pass the poset-test with a minimum of 70%, in order to receive your certificate of completion. You will also be required to complete a course evaluation. Once you have satisfactorily completed the post-test and submitted your evaluation, your certificate will be emailed to you.
