Course Description
This course requires the Participant to read and understand the attached article pertaining to marijuana abuse and its harmful effects. Marijuana is a greenish-gray mixture of the dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of cannabis sativa—the hemp plant. The use of marijuana can produce adverse physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral effects. It can even impair short-term memory and judgment and distort perception. Because marijuana affects brain systems that are still developing through young adulthood, its widespread use among adolescents and young adults is particularly alarming.
In Marijuana (Research Report Series), Participants will gain general knowledge about marijuana and the scope of its use in the United States. Additionally, Participants will learn how marijuana produces its effects and how marijuana use affects your brain and body. Also, Participants will consider important issues concerning marijuana, such as whether marijuana is addictive. Finally, Participants will conclude by reviewing available treatments for marijuana use disorders.
This course is intended to familiarize mental health professionals, social workers, substance abuse professionals, child welfare workers, healthcare professionals, psychologists, or certified addiction specialists, with current knowledge of marijuana abuse and its harmful effects.
